War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji and starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani among others, is buzzing with excitement. The actioner is only 8 days away from its release. The film is growing day by day and this is reflected in the jump in advance bookings every day. Based on the data provided by ‘Venky Box’, the Ayan Mukerji film has sold tickets worth $230,000 in North America with 8 days. The opening day collections are looking to be in the neighborhood of $900k.
War 2’s North American sales cross $200k in 8 days
Bollywood films usually don’t have premieres and considering that, the pre-premiere bookings so far are quite reasonable. Obviously, if top Telugu stars like Jr NTR had the bookings, their bookings should have been higher than what they are now, as there is a premiere culture in the South. But that hasn’t happened. It may be a case of mis-positioning and unclear marketing. Only when the film hits the theatres will the view of the film change from the Telugu film-watching audience.
Why comparing the progress of World War II and Coolie is not justified
Comparing the previous booking of War 2 with Coolie is not justified at this point as it is not an apples to apples comparison. Day 1 accounts for almost 40 percent of the lifetime collections of a Kollywood film, even with strong word of mouth, while a well-received Bollywood film ends up grossing almost 10 times its opening day number. What needs to be seen is the lifetime total of both the films.
YRF operates with great confidence after World War II
War 2 marks YRF’s immediate next film after the super blockbuster performance of Saiyaara. They have a lot of confidence and hope that War 2 also falls in the same category. The production house is on course to make over Rs 275 crore from the Mohit Suri directorial and now it remains to be seen whether the Ayan Mukerji directorial can replicate the theatrical run.
