The release of Freakier Friday is here, and star Jamie Lee Curtis is celebrating by getting nostalgic and sentimental about working on the film as audiences experience it for the first time. The Oscar winner shared some sweet thoughts about everyone involved in creating a new family comedy to rival the classic nature of the 2003 original.
Amid the film earning positive buzz (including via our Freakier Friday review ) and expected to win big at the box office over the weekend (via Box Office Pro ), Jamie Lee Curtis wrote a note to his followers on Instagram. Check it out:
We laughed, we cried, we laughed again, and we tried to come together as a group and tell a story that stands the test of time. It’s a film about love and family, empathy and understanding, and incontinence, and arthritis, and a big dose of Genz Angst. There’s music and a mayor, and a lot of misunderstandings and mistakes, and it’s steeped in motherly love. I love our little band of freaks who made this for you and that tomorrow the world will see it.
Curtis’s lovely note was accompanied by lots of photos from the production of Freakier Friday in the area. Take a look:
Wow, you can really feel the love here when it comes to making Freakier Friday . The cast looks like they had an absolute blast and were motivated to create a worthwhile sequel to the 2003 film that has been a part of many people’s lives since its release, one that would also speak to younger generations. Kurt was actually the person who called Disney to get a sequel to Freakier Friday going after she heard a lot of fans telling her they wanted to see it while promoting the Halloween trilogy in recent years.
The sequel reunited her with Lindsay Lohan and a ton of cast members from the original film, as well as introducing new teenage characters played by Sophie Hammons and Julia Butters. The upcoming pair play new members of the Coleman family who don’t go along with Lohan’s Anna, who is a single mom to Butters’ Harper, marrying Hammons’ dad Eric (played by Manny Jacinto).
The family engages in more body swap shenanigans, which sees teenage girls end up in Kurt and Lohan’s bodies and decide on a scheme to upset their parents. There’s plenty of nostalgia involved during the film’s press tour, from learning there’s a Parent Trap reunion to Lohan’s method dressing at the premiere in homage to one of her original costumes. During our own interview, returning cast member Chad Michael Murray told us a funny story about filming the original , too.
As fans begin to enjoy Freaker Friday this weekend, we’ll have to see how it stacks up against other 2025 film releases in the area. It’s in theaters now!
