Four friends, who shared a love for cinema, came together and took a step closer to their cinematic dream when they formed Banger Farm Films, an independent filmmaking collective. Aravind Babu (director/cinematographer), Christy Albee (cinematographer), Jackson Cyril (director) and Vighneses Bhaskar (director), who met at Neo Film School in Kochi to study filmmaking, have highlighted their maiden independent project, a music video for “The Remaining Days”, by music group Lef II Riot. The video, uploaded to YouTube 13 days ago, has garnered around 1.3 million views.
At a time when RAP (or something in Malayalam) seems to be the preferred medium of expression for musicians in Kerala, Banger Farm Films decided to go the English rock route with Love Ballad. Lef II Riot is a five-piece glam metal band from Kochi. The collaboration came about when the makers of Banger Farm pitched the concept/story (to build around Lef II Riot’s debut single) to a band they liked, and the project was off and running.

The music video is shot in a stylish manner, with the visuals setting the mood of the song. What sets it apart, however, is that it is in English, and is not the rap or Malayalam rock that is so prevalent these days. The video follows the protagonist as he deals with the absence of his lover – haunted by memories of their time together, while he is tormented by his loneliness.
“Through this music video, we also want to create a platform for upcoming and upcoming music groups. However, music is not our only focus, we are into films, commercials and everything else that comes out of what we do as a collective of filmmakers,” says Vighnesh. They hope to start a wave of collaborations where music and cinema intersect. Incidentally, Jackson, Christy and Aravinda’s film Echo of Silence was selected for the recently concluded International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSSFK).
