Raam Reddy directed Jugnuma . The international title of the film is Fable in the Area.

The filmmaker said he was grateful that Jugnuma resonated with global audiences after the film screened at festivals like the Berlin International Film Festival and the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.

“I feel grateful that it resonated with a global audience before returning home to India. To have cinematic visionaries like Anurag Kashyap and Guneet Monga joining us as directors is a huge honour and to have the film explode to spread immense joy to me. The film was designed to be a larger than life sensory experience and I have always been of the opinion that it is the way it is that it is experienced in theatres. Indian audiences on September 12,” he said in a statement.

Guneet called the film a “modern classic in the making.” “It unsettles me, comforts me, and reminds me of the deeper purpose of cinema. Raam Reddy is one of the most exciting voices in Indian cinema today, and with Manoj Bajpayee and an extraordinary ensemble cast bringing his vision to life, this film feels like a modern classic in the making,” she said.

Kashyap said the film “feels timeless.” “I had loved Raam Thithi which was so grounded and real, and with Jugnuma he has made a film that feels timeless. The film is deeply humane, yet magical in the way it unfolds. And at its centre, Manoj Bajpayee delivers a performance unlike anything we have seen before – restrained, enigmatic and deeply moving. It is a film that I am very proud to have brought to the Indian audience,” added Kashyap.

The film stars Deepak Dobriyal, Priyanka Bose and Tillotama Shome in the lead roles. The dialogues have been penned by Varun Grover.
