Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Ananya Padda, became a hit. The film earned over Rs 300 crore in India. The collections fell on its 46th day. Saiyaara earned Rs 4 lakh, an 80% drop from Sunday. The film’s total collection reached Rs 329.19 crore. The film’s success was helped by word of mouth and music.

Mohit Suri’s romantic drama Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Ananya Panday, has been one of the most talked about blockbuster success stories of 2024. After an extraordinary run that saw it storm past Rs 300 crore in India, it has now started showing signs of faltering at the box office. On its 46th day, Saiyaara collected just Rs 4 lakh, registering an 80% drop from its Rs 20 lakh collection on Sunday. While the sharp drop highlights its low box office strength, the film has already cemented its name in the history books with a staggering total of Rs 329.19 crore.

Fall after the storm

Saiyaara had enjoyed a sustained run of strong collections even in its sixth and seventh weekends. On its seventh Sunday, the film managed to attract a family audience and a sturdy romance, earning a decent Rs 20 lakh. However, as is often the case with long-running blockbusters, a weekday crash was inevitable after the weekend spike. There was a huge drop of 80% on Monday, leaving the film with a mere Rs 4 lakh in earnings.

‘Saiyaara’ crosses ₹150 crore in six days: Debut triumph for Ahaan Panday & Aneet Padda

Such a floor falls after six successful weeks which is considered normal in trade circles. At this stage, most of the audience has already seen the film and repeat viewership, though present, cannot sustain the opening day numbers of Long. The film has also survived big releases like Ashwin Kumar’s Mahavatar Narimsha, Rajinikanth’s Coolie and Hrithik Roshan-Jr Ntr and Kiara Advani’s War 2.

Despite this dip, Saiyaara’s overall performance is nothing short of historic. With a lifetime collection of just Rs 329.19 crore in India alone, it became the second biggest hit of the year and the 14th biggest in Hindi cinema overall.

Mouth factor

What fueled Saiyaara’s box office longevity was not just its strong soundtrack, but also its emotional narrative that resonated with audiences across generations. While critics gave it mixed reviews, word of mouth ensured that the film endured well beyond its initial weeks, setting off a rare day-to-day consistency.

A place in the record books

The trade highlights that an 80% drop on its seventh Monday does not spell Saiyaara’s box office glory. Few films manage to reach their seventh week with daily collections in the lakhs, and even fewer cross the Rs 300 crore mark without the support of a superstar-led action spectacle. By breaking stereotypes about what kind of films can succeed, Saiyaara has created a legacy of its own.
