Emmerdale’s Laura Norton asked “how” when her eldest child Jessie started her first day of school.

Actress Laura Norton joined the ITV soap in 2012 and took on the role of Carrie Wyatt. Her character left the Dales in 2022 to work on a cruise ship after struggling to cope with the death of her partner Al Chapman.

In real life, Laura took a 16-month maternity leave. She joined the soap as estranged Mother Amy Wyatt, who was later adopted by Val and Eric Pollard.

Carrie has had a tough year after Amy was one of three deaths caused by a Valentine’s Day limo crash.

Amy was submerged in freezing cold water after the ice cracked beneath her feet, and she later died in hospital from cardiac arrest.

Outside of Dale, Laura met her now-fiancé Mark Jordon on the set of Emmerdale in 2015, and the couple began dating shortly after. Mark also starred in Emmerdale as Daz Spencer before leaving in 2019.

The couple has two children together, their son Jesse and daughter Ronnie.

Unfortunately, the couple have discovered that both of their children suffer from the same condition – Usser syndrome, which causes hearing and vision impairment.

Laura and Mark have continuously expressed their dedication to finding a cure and work closely with the charity Cure Usher, founded by Jo Milne.

The actress has previously shared, “At first it was about our babies. And then you meet other families who are going through the same thing, and it becomes about everyone else.”

“It’s such a rare condition and so many people have never heard of it, and this community deserves to have people fighting for them and helping raise funds.”

Taking to her Instagram this week, Laura shared that it was her son’s first full day of school. On her story, she wrote, “How are you starting school tomorrow?”

As Mark held Jesse’s hand on the way to school, Laura posted the snap and captioned it, “And fair. Like this,” followed by a broken heart emoji.

Emmerdale co-star Michelle Hardwicke commented: “Have the best day gorgeous boy”, and Isabelle Hodgins, who announced her first pregnancy, recently added: “Oh my goodness me”.

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
