The makers of the newly released Malayalam film Lokas Chapter 1: Chandra have issued an apology to the people of Karnataka who had accused the film of portraying Bengaluru as a “party and drug hub.” They have also assured that dialogue that was flagged for “humiliating Bengaluru girls” will be edited.
In an official statement, production house Wayfarer films regretted the “oversight” and said the dialogue “unintentionally hurt the sentiments of people from Karnataka”.
The controversy erupted on social media after some users demanded the removal of certain allegedly offensive dialogues and scenes from the film. The film had previously faced controversy for allegedly promoting “anti-Hindu propaganda”.
Post XX National Award-winning Kannada director Mansore had said, “In the Kannada film Bheema , Malayalam films Duty Officer Slavery Invensa and now Loka Bengaluru is portrayed as a drug and crime capital. It was once represented in films as a beautiful city… it has come to this state due to uncontrolled migration.”
