EastEnders fans said “no more” after Zoe Slater was shot dead in a shocking gun twist on the BBC soap.

Going into Wednesday night’s episodes, fans of the popular program were divided over who was shot the night before.

To increase the suspense, the decision was made not to release the episodes early on BBC IPlayer, where they are usually released at 6:00 in the morning.

This week’s drama focuses on Zoe, who has made quite the impression since her permanent return on Michelle Ryan on Friday (August 26).

Returning to Walford after being tracked down by her brother Tommy Moon, Zoe reunited with her mum Kat Slater for the first time in two decades.

While Kat was happy to see her daughter, who she was initially convinced was her sister, Zoe admitted that she was never born because her great uncle Harry is her father.

Once again indicating that she had a big secret, Zoe and Kat’s heart-to-heart conversation was interrupted by a gun going off, leaving viewers to predict who was shot.

The gun in question was shot by either police officer Jack Branning or Ravi Gulati, who fought over it after Oscar Branning discovered it earlier in the week.

In the end, it was he who shot Zoe, as Kat began screaming for help as the enormity of the situation dawned on her.

Jack and Ravi were also conflicted as they scrambled to figure out whether to help right away or act like they didn’t know what happened as they rushed back to the former’s home.

Those who watched the episode at home rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter, to tell him about how it reminded them of the previous storyline.

@Ladyferny said: “Danielle is back on #EastEnders again.” @Shirlpuzz added: “What’s going on here Ronnie and Danielle. #EastEnders.”

@Hollz2012 wrote: “I went back to Danielle #Eastenders.” @Amethystvanity Posted: “If this is Ronnie and Danielle 2.0 I’m never watching EE #EastEnders again.”

@TVGenius05 commented: “You’re not bringing Zoe back just to bloody shoot her. Don’t use this as a Danielle situation. #EastEnders.” @GaryNorman_ posted: “Of course it’s Zoe, how else are they going to get her and Kat together?”

For those who don’t remember, Ronnie Mitchell was reunited with her daughter Danielle in 2009, only to be fatally struck by a car driven by Janine Butcher moments after an emotional reunion.
