The biggest night in television is finally here.
The 77th annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be handed out on Sunday night.
The best shows that came out sometime between June 2024 and May 2025 will be awarded in categories.
Apple TV+ is the big winner so far when it comes to nominations. Its fan-favorite show The Layoffs scored a total of 27 nominations. Lead actors Adam Scott and Britt Lower, who play Mark and Haley on the show, are both nominated for best actor.
HBO’s Batman spin-off show The Penguin came in second place with 24 nominations.
On the comedy side, critics believe Apple TV+ will take on Hollywood, with the studio garnering an impressive 23 nominations, dominating the categories it nominates for — Hollywood loves Hollywood!
The Television Academy will also honor acting duo Ted Danson (famous for shows like Cheer and The Good Place ) and Maria Steenburgen (who you might know from the movie STEP Brothers ) with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award. The award is given to honor the philanthropic efforts of media figures and has previously been given to the likes of Oprah Winfrey and George Clooney.
The Emmy Awards are split over two weekends. Last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys focused on technical and guest acting. Studio and Penguin led the way with their wins.
The fan-favorite latest addition to the Star Wars franchise, Andor, won four Creative Arts Emmys, including for Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costume Design and Visual Effects. The show is up for the Outstanding Drama Series award tonight, but it faces stiff competition from The Layoffs and other big-name nominees like HBO’s The White Lotus and The Last of Us in the Field.
When is it?
The awards ceremony will begin at 5:00 PM PT / 8:00 PM ET on Sunday night and will last approximately three hours.
Where is it?
The ceremony takes place at the Peacock Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. The PrimeTime Emmys have been held at the theater since 2008. It was formerly known as the Nokia Theatre and then the Microsoft Theatre until 2023, when NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming service acquired the naming rights.
How do I look at it?
CBS will broadcast the ceremony live. If you don’t have network TV or access to streaming services with live TV, like Hulu Live, you can stream the awards on the Paramount+ app. But there’s a catch: You can only stream the show live if you’re subscribed to its premium tier, which costs $13 per month and has a free trial.
Who takes it?
The show will be hosted by Grammy-nominated comedian Nate Bargatze. This will be Bargatze’s first time hosting an awards show. In 2024, he earned $82.2 million from his comedy tour to become the highest-paid stand-up comedian of the year.
Who else is nominated?
Other genre shows like Black Mirror, Slavery in Paradise and What We Do in the Shadows are also up for awards tonight with at least one nomination each.
There were also several record-breaking nominations. Harrison Ford earned his first Emmy nomination for his work on Apple TV+’s Downsizing .
Kathy Bates became the oldest actress to be nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the 77th Academy Awards for her work on CBS’ ” The Sailor Man.”
The 15-year-old star of Netflix’s most-watched series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Owen Cooper became the youngest person to be nominated for an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series award.
