Albania’s prime minister has accused Nigel Farage of “nonsense” about his country.
Edi Rama rejected the reformist British leader’s claims that the number of immigrants from his country in British prisons is increasing.
Farage has claimed that “one in 50 Albanians in Britain is in prison”.
But this morning on the radio Rama said: “It’s all a lot of nonsense, because there aren’t many Albanian prisoners in the UK, which somehow distinguishes [himself] from the total number of British prisoners and from other nationalities of prisoners.
“So this is a small part of the big mosaic of lies and obvious arguments that were used to convince the British people to leave the European Union.”
Rama also said the UK would struggle to find workers to do essential jobs if it weren’t for the number of Albanians moving to Britain.
He said, “Where in the hell are you going to find people to build your houses, serve you coffee, be your taxi drivers, be your truck drivers, and so on?”
The Albanian Prime Minister also reiterated his invitation to Farage to visit Albania for himself.
He said: “He has said he will come and visit and I will be very happy to see him. His plan is to come and make his incredible and full of talent theatrical gesture.”
“It will be a really great opportunity to meet a person who has a lot of talent, is very intelligent, puts aside his theater and also show him how beautiful Albania is and convince him to make Albania a place for his holidays.”
