We’ve covered some of HyperShell’s pro-level exoskeleton suits in the past and we’ve been impressed by them. Now here’s the brand new HyperShell X Ultra, which ups the spec and appeal in almost every department, ready to claim the title of best outdoor exoskeleton on the market.
These exoskeletons are designed to fit comfortably and snugly around your frame, allowing you to travel further for longer and attempt hikes and challenges that might otherwise be beyond you. Even better, they adapt and adjust to your movements and the effort you put in to feel like a natural extension of your body.

It’s a futuristic piece of kit that can transform your outdoor adventures, taking you on walks and cycles to higher altitudes and longer distances, unlocking a new level of human capability. With the addition of the X Ultra to the existing HyperShell range, the bar has been raised once again.
Some of the key improvements here include the brand new M-One Ultra motor system—with one motor mounted on each crank—that delivers 1,000W of peak power (up from 800W on previous models): that’s 1.3 horsepower directly connected to your body. The X Ultra’s range is extended to 30 kilometers, or 18.6 miles, compared to 17.5 km (10.9 miles) on the X Pro and X Carbon.
These improvements are partly down to improved motor efficiency, which is now over 90 percent, and AI algorithms that analyze your movements in real time are ready to adjust the improvements provided by the exoskeleton as you traverse terrain. At times, it almost feels like you’re flying.
So how does this measure up in the real world? Based on HyperShell testing, the new X Ultra can reduce exercise intensity by up to 22 percent for walking and 39 percent for cycling, while heart rate can be reduced by up to 40 percent during exercise.
Do the math on your outdoor expeditions, and you’ll understand what kind of difference the HyperShell X Ultra makes. It can operate from -20°C to 60°C (that’s -4°F to 140°F), it weighs just 1.8 kilograms (just under 4 pounds), and the aerospace-grade materials that make up the exoskeleton are carbon fiber, built with an IP54 rating to protect against dust, rain, and snow.
These numbers and claims also come exclusively from HyperShell. The exoskeleton’s performance has been thoroughly tested by SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance) SA SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance) SA in Switzerland, one of the global leaders in testing, inspection and certification.
Moving forward, stronger and wiser
There are more innovations to talk about here, too. There’s a new, improved knee protection feature that automatically adjusts the assist mode when the exoskeleton senses you’re going downhill – another example of how the technology works intelligently in the background to best assist you, without you having to dig into settings or open an app.
When knee protection is enabled, buffering is deployed, reducing the impact on the descending leg while also increasing support on the stance leg. In addition, knee joint rigidity is reinforced, meaning wear and tear on your knees is minimized even on the toughest downhill descents.
You also get smarter assistance and smarter movement in the new Hypershell X Ultra: The exoskeleton’s design and engineering have been further improved to offer extra assistance when you accelerate or just start out during runs and cycles, and there are new modes for getting into snow and dunes.
This brings the number of modes available to you to 12, really showing off the versatility and flexibility of the device. These 12 modes are: cycling, stairs, up stairs, downhill, uphill, mountain, walking, speed walking, running, gravel, and the new snow and dune options.
The modes the exoskeleton puts you in, as well as other settings that control how the HyperShell X Ultra works, can be customized using the companion Hypershell+ app for Android and iOS. It’s also available on WatchOS for the first time, meaning instant control from your wrist, even without your phone.
From camping expeditions to mountain biking, you don’t have to worry about where you take the HyperShell X Ultra. It’s lightweight, super strong, and scratch-resistant, so you won’t have to replace it after your first few rides: it’s built to be as demanding as you are.
Now with four years in the business, Hypershell has poured all its expertise into the new X Ultra Exoskeleton, and it shows. Whether you’re training for an Ironman, trying to keep up with your kids on a hiking holiday, or want to get to places that would otherwise be off limits, it’s perfectly positioned.
The HyperShell X Ultra’s mission is to make you go further, stronger, and smarter by giving you access to an even better, augmented version of your outdoor activities. The price of this cutting-edge technology is less than you might think, too: the exoskeleton can be yours for $1,999.
