This is how you turned a loss into a victory.
A moment shared between three actors who lost their categories at the 2025 Emmy Awards has gone viral — and refreshingly, it’s for a positive reason.
But they all lost out to the lesser-known Jeff Hiller, who won the coveted award for his hilariously heartfelt performance in the cult US series, Someone Somewhere.

And while similar candidates like Harrison Ford, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ike Barinholtz seemed to react to the loss with polite disappointment—Coleman, Bowen, and Michael’s reactions were truly surprising.
Upon hearing the veteran Citizens Brigade comedian’s name as the winner, all three men seemed absolutely elated to lose to him.
Coleman’s jaw dropped before he burst into enthusiastic applause. Michael beamed with happiness as his hands shot up in surprise. And Bowen immediately jumped out of his seat excitedly to give his peers a standing ovation.

In a very funny contrast, upon hearing his name announced as the winner, a stunned Jeff looked completely confused.
But, much like his character Joel somewhere, Jeff eventually got the basics down.
After sharing a kiss with his husband, artist Neil Goldberg, he stood up, shrugged at someone in the audience, and then walked onto the stage with a look of disbelief and joy on his face.
Bowen could be seen covering his cheeks with his hands and smiling as he walked away. Michael looked particularly touched by Jeff’s win – since he was a star in the production of bright colors and bold patterns in 2018.

“I feel like I’m going to cry,” Jeff began his acceptance speech. “Because for the last 25 years I’ve been like, ‘World! I want to be an actor!’ And the world is like, ‘Mmm, maybe computers.’”
After thanking us broadcaster HBO for “a show about sweaty middle-aged people” on the same network as “sexy euphoric teenagers,” Jeff went on to encapsulate why someone, somewhere, is so beloved.
“Thank you to the Duplass brothers, Caroline Strauss, Hannah Boss and Paul Thureen – who wrote a show about connection and love in a time when compassion is seen as weakness,” said Jeff, presenting the show’s producers and creators.

And showing sympathy may be exactly why a clip of Coleman, Bowen and Michael celebrating Jeff’s win went viral on Sunday on a somewhat unlikely social media platform—Elon Musk’s Ran X.
Many users were moved to see the three actors put their egos aside to support someone they clearly admire – many calling the moment the “highlight” of the Emmys ceremony.
Coleman, Michael, and Bowen also doubled down on their love for Jeff on their Instagram accounts after the ceremony.
“We love gays,” Coleman wrote alongside screenshots of his, Bowen’s and Michael’s reactions to Jeff’s win on Instagram.

Michael posted an Instagram story with a screenshot of Jeff holding his Emmy and noted that actors celebrating their win is what “a community should be.”

Bowen also posted an Instagram story with a screenshot of Jeff Onwan accepting his award.
“Boom Boom Jeff Miller,” the overlay text reads.

Jeff later wrote in an Instagram post, “Art is subjective and the idea that one actor can ‘win’ over another is strange, especially the incredible talent in this category. Literally iconic movie legends, cousin, even Sal Saperstein!
“And I was so touched that the other actors in the category would be so sweet and supportive. The most exciting thing is that hopefully more people will see the great work that is going on somewhere in the team and start watching the show. It’s really good and doesn’t take a lot of time to watch! I looked freaking amazing as Henny too.”
