Popular Chef-Cum-Actor ‘Madhampatty’ T. Rangaraj has filed a civil suit in the Madras High Court to restrain costume designer Joe Crizildaa from making false, malicious and defamatory statements against him in any form of media as they infringe upon his personality rights.

Appearing before Justice N. Senthilkumar on Wednesday (September 24, 2025), senior counsel Srinath Sridevan said the new suit filed by Mr. Rangaraja in his personal capacity, apart from the one already filed by his catering company, has already been numbered but was still heard in the court.

In the petition filed through his counsel for record Vijayan Subramanian, Mr. Rangaraj had sought to restrain Ms. Krizildaa, who claims to have married him, from creating, writing, printing, publishing, broadcasting, distributing, posting, distributing or distributing paid content against her.

He insisted that she should refrain from posting videos, reels, photographs, captions or any other form of audio visual content that could directly or indirectly defame his character, personal life, professional standing and reputation in the hospitality as well as entertainment industry.

The plaintiff had also filed an application along with the main suit, seeking an interim direction to Ms. Crizildaa to remove/delete the defamatory content posted against her on her Instagram profile on July 26, July 30, August 19 and August 30, 2025, and to de-tag his name and handle from all her social media posts.

Stating that he will hear the suit when it is listed, Justice Senthilkumar on Wednesday (September 24, 2025) reserved his orders on the application filed by Madhampatty Thangavavelu Hospitality, which is privately seeking to restrain Ms. Crizildaa from using the unregistered trademark “Madhampatty pakashala” and its reputation.

The orders were reserved after hearing senior counsel P.S. Raman and S. Prabakaran for the catering company and the costume designer respectively. The company had filed an affidavit stating that it had suffered losses of over ₹12 crore due to the hashtag Madhamapatty used in her derogatory social media posts.

When the judge wanted to know how the company could claim that it had lost contracts worth Rs 12 crore just because the costume designer used hashtags, Mr. Raman said there was no other reason. He said all these clients had cancelled their contracts only after her social media posts.

However, Mr. Prabakaran challenged the company to prove that the contracts were cancelled solely for his client. “I am fighting for justice and the unborn child in my womb. I have filed a criminal complaint against Mr. Rangaraja. This suit has been filed only to give a commercial color to the criminal case,” he said.
