Aubrey Plaza shares update on how she’s doing, 7 months after husband Jeff Baena’s death
If you don’t know, Jeff died in early January at the age of 47. His cause of death was ruled a suicide and Aubrey spoke about him only a few days after the tragedy.
Aubrey appeared on her Parks and Recreation co-star Amy Poehler ‘s podcast “Hang Well,” where she was asked how she was doing.
“Just to get this out of the way, people want to see you and want to see how you’re doing, they love you. You’ve had this horrible, horrible, tragic year. You lost your husband, you’ve dealt with it, and you’ve been looking for all kinds of ways to feel and find support,” Amy said. “On behalf of all the people who feel like they know you and the people who know you, how are you feeling today?”

“Right now, in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you. Overall, I’m here and I’m functioning. I feel really grateful to be moving around the world. I think I’m doing well, but obviously it’s like a daily struggle,” Aubrey said.
“This is a really dumb analogy, and it was kind of a joke at a certain point, but I really mean it. Have you seen that movie The Gap ? It’s like [an] alien movie or something with something to do with The Telltale Games . In the movie, there’s like a cliff on one side, and there’s a cliff on the other side, and then there’s a gap in between, and it’s filled with all these, like, monsters trying to get them,” she explained, also starring Anya Taylor in the 2025 film Pleasure available on Apple TV.
“I swear when I watched it, I was like, what do I think my grief is… or what grief could be,” she continued. “There’s like a giant ocean of awfulness all the time, it’s like there, and I see it. Sometimes I just want to dive into it and just be in it. Then sometimes I just watch it, and sometimes I try to get away from it. It’s always there.”
They got married back in 2021. Aubrey and Jeff were apparently separated at the time of his passing.
