Author Leslie-Ann Jones has come under attack from Queen “loyalists” as she prepares to publish a love-struck, Freddie-bombing book based on Freddie Mercury’s diaries, given to her by his alleged secret daughter.
Jones, filming a documentary about the book for Channel 5 in Switzerland this week, is sticking to her guns ahead of its publication on September 5.
However, it is understood that Mary Austin, the love of Freddie’s life, plans to deny she knows anything about his daughter in an interview in the Sunday newspaper.
And criticism of Jones, including misogynistic smears, has spread in a WhatsApp group of former employees, saying that “no one in the ‘inner circle’ has ever heard talk of a daughter.”
One former associate writes: “I don’t understand why he didn’t leave his only child in his will.
“I’m not saying it’s a stew, but since it’s [SLUR DELETED] Writing another book about a dead person, the facts don’t look good right now.”

Similar unfavourable comments have been made on social media. Peter Freestone, who hosted the Mercury Live PA for 12 years until his death in 1991, said this week: ‘I never saw the diaries. I never saw any of the children.’
He added: ‘I’m not saying they don’t exist… It was a surprise to me when I heard. A lot.’
Meanwhile, the “real” inner circle remains tight-lipped. Brian may smile, but he didn’t say a word when I asked him about the book recently at the Live Aid 40th anniversary event.
His wife Anita Dobson has previously said: “I think there have always been rumors. The person who asked would be his sister Kashmir. But even then I think sometimes when people keep secrets, they really keep those secrets.”
Which sounds like a hint, she thinks, that the story is true. Dobson explained that her husband wants to remain “neutral.”
“He said, ‘People always said all sorts of things about Freddie. Let’s take it with a pinch of salt.'”
So far, the Queen estate, which represents all the band members and Freddie’s sister, has not commented in any way.
Jones told me, “There are a lot of nasty comments being made, and some people are trying to discredit the book.

‘I would say the real inner circle – the other members of Queen and Freddie’s sister – would have denied it if they could, weeks ago when the story broke.’
They can’t, because, as Freddie’s daughter says, they know it’s true.” Her new book tells the story of a child — named only as “B” — accidentally conceived while running away with a close friend’s wife in 1976, the year after Bohemian Rhapsody was a hit.

She reportedly received a $20 million settlement, and Cleese said he was still paying it two years ago.
