Howard Stern will not be returning to his SiriusXM show after the summer break, as he previously promised.
The 71-year-old shock jock announced he would not be returning an email sent to his 95 employees on Labor Day evening that came “out of the blue” but was carefully worded so as not to panic employees.
A source told The Daily Mail that Howard’s decision is the result of “discontent with the new contract” he has been negotiating with the satellite/online radio company.
He later confirmed that his hotly anticipated comeback show would instead air on Tuesday, September 8, in an Instagram post.
Stern’s mammoth $500 million, five-year contract with SiriusXM expires at the end of this year, ending his 20-year run since he moved to the channel in 2006.
The Queens-born broadcaster is also believed to be struggling with the ailing health of his beloved mother, Ray Schiffman Stern, who would have turned 98 on October 22.
“It breaks my heart. I don’t want my mom to be uncomfortable. I just want to fix her,” Howard lamented on his show in February 2022.

‘I’m so tired and exhausted. Think of five other words for exhausted and tired, and that’s me. I’m so depressed. I mentioned it on air yesterday that my mom’s not doing well. She’s just in a lot of pain, you know? Physical pain.’
However, it was Stern’s father, Ben, who passed away from prostate cancer five months later.
The Daily Mail has reached out to a representative for the famous radio personality and SiriusXM for comment.
Howard’s titular terrestrial radio show, which ran from 1986 to 2005, drew 20m listeners a week, but his SiriusXM show has reportedly dropped to 125k listeners.
Stern previously promised on August 15th that everything would be explained on this Tuesday’s show: “Fired? Retired? Canceled? Bye booey? Howard Stern will speak. Tuesday, September 2nd. Only on @SiriusXM #Howard100.”
Former staffer Steve Grillo called the September 2 publicity stunt, teased by the former “king of all media,” a “desperate hoax” to “try to make Stern relevant again.”
“I think if old Howard Stern could go and jump in a time machine, he’d punch him right in the face,” Steve told The Daily Mail last Friday.
“Come September 2nd, I think it’s just going to be everyone in the mood, and then I think they’re going to get disappointed and tune out right away. Unless he decides to put on a leather jacket and black jeans and then come back and was like, ‘I’m back baby,’ which I highly doubt he will.”
Grillo thinks Howard “lost a lot of listeners” last September when he declared he was proud to be “woke” and compared President Donald Trump to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

The Queen-born broadcaster is said to be battling the death of his beloved mother, Ray Schiffman Stern (R, pictured in 1993), who turned 98 on October 22, 2018, after failing health.

Sterna tēvs Bens (L) 2002. gadā aizgāja bojā no prostatas vēža
Cilvēki teica: “Paņemiet man pārtraukumu”. Viņš gāja lejā, kad atbalstīja Hilariju Klintoni. ”
Klintone bija Trumpa 2016. gada pretinieks.

Atcelts? Uz redzēšanos booey? Hovards Šterns runās. Otrdiena, 2. septembris. Tikai @SiriusXM #Howard100. ”

Bijušais darbinieks Stīvs Grillo sauca 2. septembra publicitātes triku, ko ķircināja bijušais “visu plašsaziņas līdzekļu karalis”, “izmisīgi mānīti”, lai “mēģinātu padarīt Sternam atkal atbilstošu”

Prezidents Trumps 6. augustā (attēlā) ņirgājās par reālās Amerikas balsi, ka, viņaprāt, Sterns 2016. gadā devās lejup pēc tam, kad viņš atbalstīja Hilariju Klintoni Potusam: “Viņš zaudēja savu auditoriju. Cilvēki teica: “Dod man pārtraukumu” ‘

But SiriusXM President/CCO Scott Greenstein previously stated that Howard’s departure would be up to him alone.
“He’s been with me and the company for two decades, and so he’s pretty lucky, but he, like many great artists, passed away last October.”
“Nobody will ever replace them. We would never try to replace them. It’s not what’s even appropriate, or even practical.”
On October 3, Stern and second wife Beth Ostrosky Stern will celebrate their 17th wedding anniversary.
The grandfather of three has three daughters—Emily, 42; Debra, 39; and Ashley, 32—from his 21-year marriage to his first ex-wife, Alison Burns, which ended in 2001.
