Katherine Ryan has revealed a pretty serious pregnancy symptom when she opened up about her Vaingy vagina on a new show.
The 42-year-old comic appeared on the Almost Podcast with Jamie Laing, 36, and Sophie Habboo, 30.
The couple is expecting their first child, and Katherine is currently pregnant with her fourth child, which has led to both couples being very honest about their experiences during pregnancy.
“My vagina or my vulva is more like blue,” the comic said as the hosts immediately burst into laughter.
“Blue. Like a smurf. Like the embodiment of vag. And that’s because after four babies, the blood vessels and pressure dilated.”
When asked if “the whole thing” was blue, Katherine explained that it was just blue veins in her vulva, which she described as “an older woman’s legs when she hasn’t had access to compression stockings.”
“Like jumping out of my actual vulva,” she added.
What causes a blue vagina during pregnancy?
Blue vagina during pregnancy is also known as Chadwick’s sign, according to the Cleveland Clinic. It can be a possible early sign of pregnancy in which your vulva, vagina, and cervix turn a bluish color. Sometimes, your genitals will look purple or mauve.
Chadwick’s sign usually appears six to eight weeks after conception, when a sperm fertilizes an egg. But the bluish discoloration can appear as early as four weeks. This timeline corresponds to changes in your reproductive system to support pregnancy. Chadwick’s sign disappears during pregnancy or shortly after delivery.
Pain is usually not a symptom.
Katherine added that she was advised to keep her legs elevated, but said she was unable to do so while working full-time.
Sophia then connected with Katherine, revealing that she had a swollen vulva during her pregnancy, adding that it was one of the first signs she noticed.
Catherine reassured Sophia that everything would return to normal after that, which was her experience during her pregnancy.
After the clip was shared on social media by the podcast, Katherine then jokingly made fun of her breasts in the video.
“For God’s sake, my boobs look blue, too 😭 😭 😭 😭,” she commented.
The Canadian star, who is expecting her fourth child, is already a proud mom to 16-year-old Violet and her children with Bobby Kootstra: son Fred, four, and daughter Fenna, two.
In the video, Katherine also revealed that she ate her placenta after pregnancy: “I did my placenta. It’s not like raw though.
“I know a spectrum of women who have kept it in the freezer, who have made smoothies with it, who have fried it, who have planted it.
“I sent it to a company with Core Blood, to another company, to harvest the stem cells.”
Sofia and Jamie agreed that they should copy this trend and do it with their baby’s placenta.
