Conor McGregor is exiting his presidential campaign in Ireland … saying, after speaking to his family and reflecting on the situation, it’s just not the right thing for him to continue at this time. The UFC superstar released a lengthy statement on his social media page on Sunday … making it clear that while he’s not running around this time, this is by no means the end of his political career.
“I will continue to serve my people, using my international platform to advance Irish interests abroad, strengthen our economic opportunities and support transparency and accountability in public life at home.”
McGregor went on to say the conversation he sparked after his interest in the position – and the hoops he hopes to jump through to get on the ballot – will continue.

You will see me back on the canvas in the future, fighting for your rights and representing the interests of our people.”
The 37-year-old concluded his statement by saying this is “not the end, but the beginning” of his foray into politics … and he is hell-bent on improving the lives of the people of Ireland “with dedication and integrity.”“This is a marathon. Not a sprint!”
