Lola Young has admitted that “the public scrutiny is too much” as she is set to receive the award for Best New Sound of the Year at the Elle Style Awards 2025.
The Dirty Singer, 24, has revealed that for a while, the “bad” comments people leave about her have been so intense that she has avoided going online as she rose to fame.
When she posed up a storm in a long, black, leather dress for Elle Magazine’s UK October issue.
When she revealed the publication, she explained that it was too much for people to target her insecurities.
She said: ”It’s complicated. I used to watch other people go through it and wonder what it felt like. Now I know. I’ve spoken to artists like Jorja Smith about caring.
“When you get a million comments, it’s hard not to let the bad ones in. Some days I can’t go online — the intensity and the remarks targeting your insecurities can be too much. But I know what I stand for.

‘There’s no facade or alter ego. I’m just promoting who I am. Some people don’t like that.’
“It’s been hard at times, but mostly amazing. You can’t catch the moments between your fingers – they go by too fast. Honestly, it’s been a dream come true. Being one of the numbers that became one of the biggest songs in the world… it’s weird to even talk about.”
She also explained that she has tried to be open about her feelings from the beginning when asked how important it is to be open about mental health.
“This conversation wasn’t happening 10 or 20 years ago, but now artists are speaking out for their own safety and mental health,” she said.
“I’ve tried to be open from the beginning. I just think we should break down the stigma around this idea that you just jump on a show and you’re gone. People don’t see what goes on behind the scenes.”
“I still have really bad days, but through music I can always find joy. They can coexist. If I pictured my inner child, a girl playing guitar at 14, I know she would be shocked but proud. I try to relate to that: This is my dream, and I have to keep going.”
Lola explained that she has tried to stay true to herself and use fashion as a medium of self-expression because she said she “hates it” when people say that certain fashion trends are “unacceptable.”
She confessed, “One thing I hate is people telling others that a fashion trend is unacceptable. Wear whatever you want.”

She also explained that she has tried to be open from the beginning when asked how important it is to be open about mental health.
Lola explained that she has tried to stay true to herself and use fashion as a medium of self-expression because she said she “hates it” when people say certain fashion trends are “unacceptable.”
“I dress for how I feel. I’ve been exploring more colors recently. It’s important to be confident.”
She also opened up about her recent performance at Wembley Stadium after a faulty headset left her in tears.
“It was actually terrible, but it made for a really f*cking good video, I think,” she admitted.

Lola arī atvēra savu audzināšanu un to, kā viņas muzikālā mājsaimniecība viņai palīdzēja, bet viņas aprindas ir palikušas vienādas kopš tā, ka pacelšanās uz slavu.
Viņa sacīja: “Es nepieaugu ar daudz naudas. Mana mamma un Stepdad ir lepni, un es viņus atbalstu tur, kur varu.
‘Esmu no muzikālas mājsaimniecības un sāku klavieres agri. Daudz kas ir mainījies, bet tik daudz ir palicis nemainīgs. Man ir tie paši draugi, tā pati ģimene, tās pašas māsas zog manas drēbes. Tas mani pamato.
‘Es nekad negribu ļaut mirdzumam un šarmam aizvest galvu uz citu vietu. Jūs varat ātri aizkavēties – tas ir drausmīgi.
“Kad jūs dzīvojat greznāku dzīvi – ar zīmolu vai kaut ko citu izved uz izdomātu laivu – jūs saprotat, cik daudz dažādu pasaules kabatu pastāv, un ir viegli pazaudēt sevi.
“Cilvēki izturas pret tevi atšķirīgi. Viņi zina, kas jūs esat, pirms staigājat. Es nekad par to nekad neesmu runājis, bet tas ir kaut kas, ar ko es joprojām cīnos.
‘Tas ir dīvaini. Jums jāzina, pie kā jūs varat vērsties – kurš jums pateiks, kad jūs esat sūds. ”
Šā gada sākumā Lola bija spiesta pievērsties apgalvojumiem, ka viņa ir “Nepo mazulis” vai “rūpniecības rūpnīca” pēc tam, kad fani atklāja, ka viņas tante ir Jūlija Donaldsone, autore aiz mīļotās bērnu grāmatas The Griffalo.
Cilvēki arī trāpīja, saucot Lola par “rūpniecības rūpnīcu”, kas ir kāds, kurš pasniedz kā organiski audzētu savu slavu, bet faktiski ir izveidojusi etiķete.
Parādoties Capital Buzz, saimnieks Sems Pearce jautāja The Rising Star: “Kaut kas notiek jebkurā laikā, kad mākslinieks uzsprāga, termins nozares rūpnīca tiek izmesta apkārt, un acīmredzot cilvēkiem nav ne mazākās nojausmas, ka jūs strādājat kopš 2019. gada. Kā jūs jūtaties par šo terminu?”
Atgriezies pie “zaudētājiem, kas komentē,” Lola atcēla: “Nē, viņi nezina, pretējā gadījumā viņi to nesaka. Es domāju, ka tas ir tikai stulbākais termins.
“Es domāju, ka ir rūpniecības augu gadījumi, bet kas tad? Tas nenozīmē, ka viņi nav talantīgi, un tas neko neatņem.
‘Cilvēki saka, ka esmu Nepo mazulis, jo mana lielā tante uzrakstīja Gruffalo. Es domāju, kāda veida atkritumi tas ir? ‘
Viņa turpināja: “Man ir tik daudz ko teikt par to, par kuru es pat nevaru runāt. Bet es neesmu NEPO mazulis, es neesmu nozares rūpnīca, tur mēs ejam, es to teicu.
“Esmu to noskaidrojis visiem tiem zaudētājiem, kuri vēlas komentēt atkritumus internetā. Vienkārši atrodiet kaut ko labāku, jūs esat skumji, jūs esat vientuļš.
Šā gada sākumā Lola bija spiesta pievērsties apgalvojumiem
“Lieta ir tā, ka nozares rūpnīca ir tikai termins citiem māksliniekiem un citiem cilvēkiem, kuri vienkārši nezina, ko viņi dara dzīvē, un jūtas sajukums, ka kādam citam ir viņu brīdis.
‘And if you’re an industry factory, unfortunately you won’t have your moment for that long.
“And maybe sometimes you will, it just doesn’t matter, none of those things matter. If someone has talent, then they have talent.”
She then explained, “Yes, and I, by the way, am not an industry factory at all.”
