This month, Netflix scored a huge success with one of their latest releases—the mysterious, witty, and spine-tingling police drama Department Q.
Downton Abbey’s Matthew Goode stars as hardened police detective DCI Carl Mork, who takes no prisoners when he’s forced to head a new department at the station focused solely on cold case investigations.

Following the release of Department Q, we asked Metro readers for their top recommendations for high-octane crime thrillers to stream on Netflix. Here’s what they had to say.
Unforced
Untamed was just released this month – and Netflix fans around the world were instantly hooked.
The thriller saw the long-awaited return of “underrated” Hollywood star Eric Bana to the world of television, playing Kyle Parker, a special agent with the National Park Service’s Investigative Services Branch (ISB), who becomes involved in the investigation into the mysterious death of a woman.
Metro Reader Rich Moffat described the show as “amazing,” stating, “It has intrigue from beginning to end. Great characters and a setting that hooked me early on and kept me going.”
Disgusting currently has an impressive 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and shortly after its release, the streaming giant confirmed that it would return for a second season.
What did Metro think of Untamed?

Time is of the essence: we only have six episodes total to kill the young woman we see falling off a cliff in the very first scene.
What wouldn’t stand head and shoulders above any crime thriller Netflix has offered so far this year – and more in the leagues of Broadchurch or Easttown mare – is the inventive setting, and it sang in perfect harmony.
As twists and turns build, calling into question unsolved cases from years past, Untamed becomes a show you’ll fight to put down. You’ll scream. You’ll sweat. And you’ll come away wishing there had been more throat-clearing in the end.

While North Shore was airing on ITV in the UK late last year, in June, it was added to Netflix’s repertoire.
Recommended by Metro Reader Lynn Purkiss, the Australian mystery crime thriller—which premiered in the land below in 2023—follows a British and Australian detective who must join forces to investigate the murder of the daughter of the British trade minister.
Downton Abbey star Joanne Froggatt, who plays Abigail Crawford in the series, also recently appeared in the medical drama Breathtaking and Paramount Plus’ Mobland.
He stars on the North Shore alongside Game of Thrones actor John Bradley and Thirteen Lives actress Kirsty Sturgess.
“North Shore on Netflix is brilliant! When is the next episode please?” one viewer, named Jonquil, wrote on X.
‘Looking forward to the second series of North Shore on Netflix. Really enjoyed it,’ Regina added, while Brydon noted: ‘North Shore On Netflix was pretty good.’
