Spice Girls icon, Melanie C, is set to star in Rebel Wilson’s Ultimate Girl Power movie, despite the director recently being embroiled in a legal battle.

The singer, 51, will appear alongside All Saints’ Shaznay Lewis and the Pussycat Dolls’ Ashley Roberts for Rebel’s upcoming film Girl Group.

The film will also star actress Sheridan Smith, who starred in the ITV true crime drama I Fought the Law.

The Rebels will write, produce, and star in the comedy, as production has already begun, according to Deadline .

The film will see Rebel play a pop diva who is forced out of her band’s reunion tour and sentenced to community service from a court order.

Determined to still make it big in the industry, she returns to coach the Misfit Teenage Girls group for a life-changing audition with hopes of signing to a top record label.

But not everything goes according to plan. After being pushed too far, she faces toxic issues affecting the music industry and her own life.

Rebel has said it is “The Ultimate Girl Power Movie.”

“Ever since I’ve been a part of the Pitch Perfect franchise, I’ve always wanted to create something like this,” she said.

“The girl group is so fun and full of spirit, ready to have you singing and dancing from the cinema.”

The actress will hope this project goes smoother than her first directorial venture, Deb after she was embroiled in a messy legal battle.

Rebel’s co-producers on her musical comedy Debs claim the actor is sabotaging the film’s long-delayed release so she can buy them at a reduced cost.

She now faces three legal claims related to the film’s stalled release, including defamation threats against DEB’s lead actor Charlotte McInnes in The Local.

The Pitch Perfect Star is already being sued for defamation by three of the film’s producers in the US and the production company AI Film, which is seeking damages in the NSW Supreme Court.

Debs was a joint production between AI Film and Wilson’s Company Camp Sugar, featuring Wilson both in the director’s chair and in the on-screen lead role.

A joint venture between Wilson and AI Films called Dunburn Debutante Commission Company (DDCC) was formed to hold the rights to Deb and split all proceeds.

The project imploded after Wilson allegedly made a series of unfavorable Instagram posts about fellow producers Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron, and Vince Holden in mid-2024.

The rebels took to social media pages to accuse the trio of sexual harassment, misappropriation, and the release of her directorial debut in theaters, all of which they have vehemently denied.

AI Film claims in its Australian legal claim that Wilson engaged in conduct that “harmed [its] business and reputation,” according to court documents filed in the NSW Supreme Court.
