Balvinder has played Suki Panesar-Unwin since 2020 on the BBC program
Strictly Come Dancing’s Balvinder Sopal has revealed she is working a “reduced schedule” on EastEnders as she gave a career update.
Actress Suki Panesar-Unwin is one of 15 celebrities set to learn the art of dance in the annual BBC series.
Taping the opening show last week, Balvinder’s opening dance will be broadcast on Saturday night (September 20).
Due to filming the 23rd season of Strictly Prime Minister, Balwinder was unable to join his castmates at the national television awards on Wednesday (September 10).
Balwinder’s character Suki, which she has played for five years, is currently trying to get back on the same page with his wife Eve Panesar-Unwin.
Eve was furious to learn that Suki was trying to convince her pregnant teenage granddaughter Avani Nanda-Hart not to have an abortion and give them the baby.
Last week saw them start seeing eye to eye again after Suki comforted Eve after she was the victim of a homophobic Jonno Highway attack.
While many soap stars choose to focus solely on acting and take time off from their acting duties, Balvinder will try to balance the two.
“It’s going to be a kind of reduced schedule, but I’m working there. And I actually really like the idea of having to do both. Strictly and EastEnders have a really great relationship.”
“We always have someone from the show on strict duty, so they’re very careful,” she told The Radio Times.
When asked what kind of contestant she hopes to be, the 46-year-old expects her to be a “perfectionist.”
She explained, “I think the validation will come from me first before anyone else. Even when I get my lines, I’m like, ‘Why this word? Why not this word? Okay, I have to do this job.'”
“So I have to try to understand this language that we’re going to speak now, because it’s like another language.
“That’s why for me, I can’t think about testing someone else because then I think I’ll just fall flat on my back.”
Jamie Borthwick represented EastEnders firmly last year before he was axed from the role of Jay Brown
