Speaking on his BBC Radio 2 show this morning (September 1), Vernon Kaye warned one of his colleagues “right there” about a new Strictly Come Dancing contestant
BBC Radio 2 host Vernon Kay has said he “doesn’t even go there” after he issued one of his broadcast co-stars with an A warning about a contestant on Strictly La Voix from RuPaul’s Drag Race.
On today’s (Monday, September 1) BBC Radio 2 show, he shared an insight into his relationship with a new Strictly Come Dancing contestant ahead of the reality show’s return later this month.
Looking back on his time appearing on stage in the pantomime adaptation of Aladdin, he recalled his experience appearing alongside RuPaul star La Voix, who is among the celebrities competing in this year’s series.
Warning his Radio 2 co-star Scott Mills, who is set to appear alongside the Drag performer in an adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk in December this year, Vernon said: “I can’t wait, I can’t wait to see La Voix, who now calls herself my panto mum because she played my mum. Kris (La Voix’s real name) is just the best, the best.”
He added: “I said to Scott (Mills), because Scott is doing a Panto with La Voix this Christmas: ‘Don’t even go there, don’t even try to give La Voix a little bit of a chat back to your ad libs, because she’ll swallow you up.'”
While La Voix is set to take to the stage again at the end of the year, she will first be tasked with trying to claim the glitterball trophy on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.
After becoming the newest contestant announced on the show last month, she spoke of her excitement at the opportunity to compete on the beloved BBC program: “I’ve performed for royalty, RuPaul and Simon Cowell, but nothing fills me with more excitement (and quite a bit of terror) than the thought of dancing on Dancing with the Millions Live on Saturday night.”
She added: “Strictly is a national institution and I can’t wait to get started. All that’s left to say is: Good luck to my partner! Here’s hoping they can help me get from La Voix to La Danse.”
Before earning a spot on the latest series of Strictly, La Voix initially shot to fame in 2015 after finishing second on Rupaul’s Drag Race UK, where Vivienne took top spot.
Meanwhile, nine years later, she again came in second place on Rupaul’s Drag Race UK.
La Voix is set to join the likes of reality star Dani Dyer, former footballer Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, former Extra contestant Tom Skinner and former Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison as they go toe-to-toe for this year’s top prize.
Strictly Come Dancing is set to return on September 20 on BBC One.
