The first trailer for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights has been released, offering a provocative reimagining of Emily Brontë’s classic 1847 novel. Starring Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, the film dabbles in sensual imagery and heightened melodrama.

The trailer contrasts traditional Yorkshire Moors footage with surprisingly intimate visuals: hands kneading bread, shirtless glimpses of Elordi in the stable, bodices pulled up and open, and Robbie’s Catherine and Elordi’s bodies sharing almost erotic gestures. The images underscore the film’s emphasis on physical desire alongside Brontë’s enduring themes of obsession, betrayal, and class.

Fennell, who wrote, directed and produced the project, reunites with Robbie after their collaborations on A Promising Young Woman and Salt Burn . Robbie is also producing through his company LuckyChap, which backed both previous projects. Warner Bros. Minist Pictures will release the film worldwide after acquiring distribution rights in a competitive bidding war.

The casting of Elordi as Heathcliff has been a subject of debate. In Brontë’s text, the character is described as dark-skinned and marked by outsider status, with much of his behavior rooted in race and class. Critics have expressed concern that casting a white actor risks erasing that dynamic.
