Marlon Whedon has spoken about what’s in store for Scary Movie 6. According to him, the series’ trademark crass humor will be aimed at anyone and everyone.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly , he promoted the upcoming horror comedy as “no holds barred and equal opportunity offenders. We just want to make everyone laugh, and we don’t care if you’re sensitive. Even sensitive people have to laugh at themselves.” While the slants are well-known films like The Exorcist and War of the Worlds, the earlier installments had jokes you probably felt bad laughing at at the time (if you laughed). After all, that’s how Wayans became popular back in the day, something he noted, highlighting White Chicks by making fun of “black people, white people, [and] Hispanic people. That’s just what we do.”
If that raises your hackles, don’t worry: Wayans insisted that it was all done with love, and hoped that the jokes in Scary Movie 6 reflect how comedy has evolved since the films first came out, and admitted that not every joke is going to land perfectly. However, he argued that “you have to recognize how comedy has changed. Not just horror, but movies have changed, audiences have changed, the world has changed,” he explains. “I think the way to do that is to make the generation gap part of the conversation. […] Just know that not only are we laughing at you, but you have the opportunity to laugh at others.”
Mainstream silly comedies enjoyed a resurgence with the success of Naked Gun back in August, and Wayans is hopeful Scary Movie 6 can continue that trend by working as “a great conversation piece that [lets us] sit down and laugh together with three generations of people who haven’t had a great comedy in a long time.”
Scary Movie 6 hits theaters on June 12, 2026.
