Las Vegas – A cyberattack forced Nevada state offices to close for two days this week and rendered some state websites and phone lines unavailable, the governor’s office said Tuesday.

Agencies will announce when their counters reopen for in-person services, according to Joe Lombardo, the government technology officer whose website was among those disabled.

The country identified the attack on Sunday and said authorities were investigating. Officials were unable to release technical information to protect internal systems while the investigation continues, the note said.

There is no evidence that personal information was compromised, it added. Emergency services remained available.

State employees were placed on administrative leave on Monday. Many returned to work on Tuesday, and employees will continue to return to the office as their computer systems are brought online.

Previous cyberattacks have crippled public services elsewhere in the U.S.

For example, in 2020, an attack in Tillamook County, Oregon, took down its computer systems and website.

And in 2018, a ransomware attack shut down automated 911 dispatch in Baltimore for about 17 hours.
