Subramanian.
Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC) pašlaik tiek izmantota AI tuberkulozes noteikšanai, analizējot rentgena starus. AI ir arī loma vēža agrīnā atklāšanā.
“There is an established role for AI in cancer and tuberculosis detection and we want to take it forward,” the minister told reporters after handing over appointment orders to lab technicians in Chennai on Monday.
The minister said that an initiative to use AI-powered models for healthcare is being rolled out at Government Royapettah Hospital and Periyar Nagar Government Hospital and has been implemented at Government Royapettah Hospital and Periyar Nagar Government Hospital.
It is learnt that the system has been installed in two centres and data from CT scans and X-rays will be anonymised and analysed with the help of AI to detect diseases like lung cancer in their early stages. Doctors will provide the final confirmation of the diagnosis. Diseases like lung cancer are very difficult to detect in their early stages and this is where AI could play a role. The system, developed by a private agency, is being trialled to see how it can help doctors in diagnosis.
Based on the feedback, an expert committee would examine how this could be taken forward and how technology could be used to detect undiagnosed or hard-to-detect cases.
Known for high accuracy
For example, AI is being used in the detection of TB, especially in its early stages, and is known for its high accuracy. “AI will have a significant impact on the healthcare sector in the coming years, and we want to be ahead of the curve,” the official said.
The committee comprises the Health Secretary; Managing Director, TNMSC; Project Director, Tamil Nadu Health Systems; Mission Director, National Health Mission, Tamil Nadu; Directors of Medical Education and Research, Medical and Rural Health Services, Public Health and Preventive Medicine; State TB Officer; and 20 experts, including a Professor of Radiology.
The government order to set up the committee was issued two days ago. “The committee will explore the possibilities in which AI can be implemented in the healthcare sector. It will submit a report,” the minister added.
The official added that they will also induct experts from Anna University, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and other engineering institutions.
VHN poles
Two years ago, 2,250 vacancies for Village Health Nurses (VHNS) were declared and examinations were conducted for recruitment. However, more than 10 court cases were filed against the recruitment. About 15 days ago, the court ruled that out of the 2,250 candidates, appointment orders could be issued to those from government training institutions. Preparatory work has begun and counselling will be held in three days so that they can choose their posting. The Chief Minister will hand over the appointment orders to them on September 22.
When asked about dog bites, the minister said that efforts are being made to come up with measures to control the stray dog population.
