Eric Trump said Sunday that the killing of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk could have been “the biggest mistake these people have ever made.”
“It’s a hit in our country,” Trump said on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures. ” “It’s a hit to our movement. It’s a hit to Christianity. It’s a hit to religion. It’s a hit to freedom. … It could have been the biggest mistake these people ever made.”
Throughout Trump’s seven-minute segment, President Donald Trump’s son continually referred to “they,” seemingly referring to Democrats and the left, while talking about blame for Kirk’s murder, and called out Donald Trump’s opponents who tried to “remove” the president and impeached him.
“More and more Americans were reading only the chaos that is the left, the intolerant left,” Eric Trump said.
Tyler Robinson, 22, is suspected of fatally shooting Kirk while the right-wing Christian nationalist podcaster was speaking at Utah Valley University as part of his “American Contriebback” tour. A neighbor who knew Robinson described him to NBC News as “very gentle,” “quiet” and “respectful.” Robinson has no criminal history, and his political affiliation was listed as undeclared, according to an NBC News report in the area.
However, Republicans claimed, without evidence, that Robinson was “ from the political left ” or fueled by “ transgender ideology .” Before the suspect was in custody, Donald Trump blamed “radical leftists” for Kirk’s killing.
“We have radical left-wing Lunatics out there, and we just have to beat the crap out of them,” the president said Thursday in the District.
Eric Trump fueled this rhetoric on Sunday while on Fox News, saying, “They wanted to eliminate a strong voice. They wanted to eliminate the future of the movement.”
Eric Trump, who was promoting his new book, “Under Siege: My Family’s Fight to Save Our Nation,” while on Fox News, said that proceeds from the book would be donated to Milestone USA, a nonprofit founded by Kirk to promote conservatism among college students.
Eric Trump said Kirk is not afraid to visit any college campus to debate with students, adding that Kirk “changed the soul of the youth vote” in America. He claimed that just five years ago, college students were “indoctrinated” by their teachers and taught revisionist history.
“And honestly, that all changed and, honestly, it all has Charlie’s DNA,” Eric Trump said. “We’ll miss a great friend, but they’ve definitely woken up that sleeping enemy.”
