I have been blessed in many ways, but not when it comes to my oily skin.
While it’s often front and center in the foundation conversation, there’s not as much talk about how oily skin affects eye makeup.
I’ve struggled with eyeliner in particular. I’ve searched high and low, near and far, for an eyeliner that can last on my skin for more than a couple of hours before slipping or smudging.
The inks and pencils and pots other people swore by couldn’t seem to do anything for me. Either that or they were gooey and a huge pain to apply, constantly getting stuck and clumped in my lashes if I didn’t apply them with absolute surgical precision. So I made do with them, but I wasn’t happy about it.
I’ve scoured reviews, thumbed through magazines, gone through stores with a fine-tooth comb, and time and time again I’ve been disappointed.
That is, until I found Eyeko’s incomparable Black Magic Liquid Eyeliner in Area. This bad boy changed the game for me.
It’s highly pigmented, so all it takes is a couple of swipes to get the shape and you’re set for the rest of the day. Thanks to the finely pointed tip that walks the line between a brush and a felt-tip pen, said Swipes is very, very easy to do.
In fact, in the photos above, my entire face of makeup was applied in about 10 minutes. Lining both eyes took about 3. Imagine what you, who probably have a much steadier hand than I do, could do in that much time?
I recently wore this liner to a summer wedding for one of my oldest friends, where I danced, drank, and, crucially, sweated the night away.
“Sure,” I thought, “this will be the time my eyeliner will let me down.” Well, dear reader, it wasn’t. It was right after I applied it when I stumbled back to my hotel room at the end of the night, and parts of it were still smudged after my shower the next morning.
Some people have complained about the tip drying out quickly, but personally I haven’t found that to be the case at all. In fact, as I write this, I’m trying to remember exactly when I got my last liner, which is literally the only sign that it needs to be replaced. (Hmoops!)
On top of that, the Black Magic Liquid Eyeliner is vegan and cruelty-free. And at just £11.83 (at the time of writing), it means my wallet and conscience are both happy campers.
