The iPhone 17 is a pretty significant update over last year. The jump to a larger 6.3-inch display with a notch, a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera, longer battery life, and the new A19 chip make it the most significant upgrade to the base-model iPhone in years. It offers great value for money at $799, and many of the new features are coming to other more expensive models this year.
Most iPhone 16 owners will notice a meaningful difference, but of course those with an iPhone 14 or older will see a more dramatic jump. Buyers who want a modern iPhone with a pro-level display and great cameras at a lower price point should strongly consider upgrading, but iPhone 16 owners who are happy with their device may find it less urgent to switch. Nevertheless, the upgrade is relatively substantial.
