Two people were injured after a fire broke out on a Ugite Airlines flight, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing.
United Flight 32 was diverted from Japan to the Philippines when flames reportedly broke out just 50 minutes into the aircraft’s cargo flight.
The plane, carrying 142 passengers and crew, was still over Japan when its pilots turned back and landed at Kansai International Airport near Osaka around 6 a.m. ET.
United Flight 32 was met on the runway by emergency crews and fire trucks, although there was no visible damage to the plane’s exterior.
United Airlines told The Daily Mail that two passengers on board were taken to a local hospital after suffering minor injuries in an emergency.
However, United said they could find no signs that a fire had actually broken out after inspecting the plane at Kanansai International.
“United Airlines Flight 32 from Tokyo-Narita to Cebu, Philippines, diverted to Osaka due to a possible fire in the cargo hold. The aircraft landed safely and passengers were evacuated via slides,” United Airlines said in a statement Friday morning.
It is still unclear what triggered the fire warning on the Boeing 737-800.
